What a wonderful site! I am the mother of 3 sons and want to explore their Sicilian Heritage. My father in-law passed away. His parents came from Sicily via New Orleans. He was a first generation American. I know very little about his family as they came from Greenville Mississippi. I have been able to trace my own family back to Finland, England, and Scotland into the 1600's. I hope to start with the passanger lists for New Orleans back in the 1800's. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Ciao!!!

Maria Angela Mennone came from Caiazzo, Caserta, Italy and migrated over to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in March, 1968. I am trying to find information on my family but it is very difficult. My dad said that the Rolli name has some connection with Switzerland. I know my dad worked there for awhile int he 60's, but I don't know for how long, or where he worked. His parents were Amedeo Rolli and Lucia Buonomo. His maternal grandparents were Francesco Buonomo and Caterina Marra. His paternal grandparents were Stefano Rolli and Maria Santa Santillo. My mom's parents were Domenico Mennone and Maria Fasulo. Her maternal grandparents were Giuseppe Fasulo and Giuseppe Gianetti. Her paternal grandparents were Michele Mennone and Maria Angela Maffei. Maria Angela's mother was Giuseppina Maffei, the father unknown. We believe Maria Angela was an illigitimate child. Michele Mennone's mother was Luisa Audini, the father unknown. Most of these people were born in Ruviano, Caiazzo and Treglia. If anyone has any info, please don't hesitate to email me...lrolli@yahoo.com Thanks, Laura

My Grandparents on my mothers side, Legnant) meet and married in or neaer New York in about 1881. They went back to Italy to Grumento Nova (Potenza), however some of thier children remained in the USA. I did, in the early 60's meet USA cousins in Australia where I was then living. The cousins were from San Jose California. I also remember seeing photoes of my cousine James Legnante ( the surname maybe mispelt due to a clerical error at the point of entry in New York (I think it was Ellis Island), pardon my ignorance, but I have never been to the USA and just do not know it very well). I would love to get in contact with any stem of the familty of the Legnante. My grandfasther was born in Carbone (potenza) and my Grandmother in Grumento Nova (Potenza) My granfasther was Egidio Legnante and my grandmother was Rosa Lauria. My cousin James Legnane lived in Califirnia, but as far as I remember was not married. I also have family of my grandmother Rosa Lauria in USA. She had sisters who went with their widowed father to California. My grandmother Rosa staid in New York with her husband Egidio. Some of their childrens names were: Basilio, Guiseppe, Giannina (the youngest = my mother), Amelia, Caterina, Teresa, Biagio. Would love to hear from any one who can help.

This is a great site fully of great stuff and music to go along with the pages. I'm third generation that was born in South Jersey where there were little Italies all over. My great grandmother Filomena Cugino(Florence as she was called in America) came from Riccia, Campobasso, Molise with her sister Josephine Cugino DiBuono when their uncle sent for them. They left behind their parents Antonio and Carmela DiBuono Cugino and their brothers and sisters Fred?, Joseph, Maria, and Donadella (Donatella or something with that prenunciation) and possibly other siblings whos names I am unfamiliar with. Filomena married Michele (Michael) Roninello (which was changed to Randalella) and they had 11 children, 4 girls and 7 boys, 4 (2 sons and 2 daughters) of which are still alive. Michael's parents were Eugene and Mary Rondinello but I don't know were in Italy they came from. They came to the U.S. and settled in N.J. around the turn of the century. Keep up the grat work on the site :}

As one descended from Sicilians on the maternal (Davi from Isola Della Femina; Compagno from San Vito) and paternal (either Augustino or D'Agostino, Tarantino, DiMaggio, Lucido) it was very nice to see so much interest. hello, perhaps, i have a request that may fall out of line i will say i was a carrier in (rincon annex as a sub and later went to 18th & diamond after making regular from approx 1945-53 ) while at rincon annex carl saxenmeier, (super union supporter) and i were the very best of friends. was so pleased to see that he had an award named after him. i departed san francisco, during the Korean War, and went back into the military. retired from miliary in 1963, and then went back to post office worked there until 1984. i have called melvin canevari, (san francisco) who was a friend and have asked him about different people, but his recall has failed him a tad i believe. also, i worked with charles (chuck) warner, can't remember which office (seems mine has faded also lol) he transferred from san francisco po to the petaluma post office--chance you may know him. now to the final item--i have been searching for armand zaniroli, who lived out in bayview area for many years. he was a close friend of mine also! see he contributes to colcpe, as his name appears quite frequently in the postal record. is there any way you could give him my address and phone number as i would be so delighted to talk (he may call me collect) with him again after forty-seven years. hope i have not overturned the apple cart. incidentally, you have an excellent website and it gives so much information to the postal employee. my branch is #4617 bossier city 71111. my home address is william evans sr. 2422 river street Bossier City, La 71112. rest assured i will pass the info about your website to all the guys here at Branch 4617. hope you all have a good turnout in chicago, and get a lot of issues on/off the board--God knows we need them. Incidentally, i have been retired for a number of years from the postal service. i will be seventy-five in november 2000. thank you, so much my Brother@NALC-214, for listening to me, and excuse the intrusion. arrivederci!

My son John sent me this webpage. I see that your grandmother's maiden name was Santangelo. My grandfather was from Potenza, Italy. My father is Salvatore Santangelo. My grandfather, Michael came to America in 1904 from Potenza and his sponsors were in Denver, Colorado. He met my grandmother, Marie Carbone in Denver and married in 1914 (I think). Michael and Marie had ten children: John, Joe, Theresa, Angie, Salvatore, George, Alvera, Eleanore, Louis, and Clyde. They all grew up around North Denver at 41st and Zuni. We are also related to some Garramones and Lombardis. I would be interested in any information on any family that is from Southern Italy and possibly I could send a picture of my grandparents at their wedding. Thanks!!

I have just discovered that my great grandfather was from Italy and his parents are also from Italy. My great Uncle (his son) told me that he came from Messina, Sicily. I do not know his parents names but have discovered a brother. They immigrated in 1880 into NYC. Brooklyn . I am interested in knowing if anyone has information about the name LaMotta? Because of the name change we were thinking it was French. Would the name LaMotta be spelled differently in Italian? Thanks for the fabulous site.

Zito born 1835 Palermo Sicily. I think his father was Andrea born 1795 and married 1821 to Caterina Giordano born 1800. And Andrea Zito's father was Francesco born 1770 and his mother Giuseppa born 1775. My greatgrandfather Giuseppe married Marie Scardino...  I think Giuseppe's sister and brothers were Maria b 1822 d 1830, Francesco b 1824 d 1827, Giuseppe b. 1829 d 1831, Francesco b 1832, Pietro b 1837, Federico b 1841 died 1862 and Maria born 1846...  And I know my greatgrandfather Giuseppe brought his family from Palermo to Ellis Island to NY in 1900 and then he left the family and went back to Sicily for health reasons. He lived in a providence of Palermo near Camporeale named "Roccarmana...  Other names through marriages include, Palmeri, Finnetta, D'Arira, Fontanna, Mazza and Rizzuto. Anyone who might have a connection to these names please let me know.

Da circa trenta anni abbiamo perso i contatti.L'ultimo indirizzo conosciuto è:29 Orchard Square, Caldwell, New Jersey.

Spence, I found your site by accident. My wife and I are planning on going to Sicily in early April 2000. I am Sicilian but born and raised and work in San Francisco. I was born in the Marina District and went to St Vincent De Paul grammar school then to Sacred Heart HS. I understand I have family in Sciacca. We plan on flying to Rome then getting to Sicily, probably Palemero. I think I would like to drive but I dont know much about distances, etc. We are going for 12 days total. Can you give me any hints on driving around Sicily or places to stay and places I shouldn't miss in Sicily. Both my parents are Sicilian, my mother from NYC, and Dad from San Francisco. They are first cousins so this really confuses the family line. My Moms madien name is Sclafani and I am a Catanzaro. I would be interested in chatting with you if you have a chance.

Was just doing some surfing on my last name and came across your page, which is done very well. My uncle Nick Morgan "Morgia" is doing a family tree on my mothers side of the family and has found out we were related to some very intersting people. I have been speaking with my cousin Dan Sacco about doing one for the Sacco side of the family but the problem we have run into is I am a police officer and he is very active in the emergency services for the county, so trying to find time is difficult. It looks like you have spent alot of time on the page and your geneology. I get to do a little searching over the net while I am on my lunch break. If you get a chance check out the singer Lou Kristi (double check spelling) his real name is Lou Sacco and he grew up in Pittsburgh which not to far from where I live.

Spence, what a great page. It's nice to see a letter courier so proud of his job. My grandfather also worked for the Post Office. Good for you. Perhaps, this might seem like an odd request, however, if things work out the result might be something you are interested in. I am an aspiring writer and cook. It is of my believe that food is a great medium in which to explore culture and history. Being fascinated with the Italian culture not to mention in love with its food, it is a dream of mine to attend an Italian cooking school with an educational focus on cooking and culture. Luckily, I have. Furthermore being an aspiring writer this is an excellent oportunity for me to fullfill my dream of traveling to Italy, visiting the countryside, strolling through the markets, tasting the wine, getting to know the people and traditions and write about in a travel/cookbook. There is were you come in Spence. I want this dream to come true. The only problem money. I have the talent and the passion. Not the wallet. My question to you is, do you know of any scholarships or the possibility of any Italian American associations that might be willing to help me out. If so I have a lot to offer in return. I welcome the chance to speak with you further regarding this chance in a life time. Thank you for your time, Tim Wanner wannert@hotmail.com

I loved your web page! I am new at this family tree stuff and in researching my family history I came across the last name of Machi. My great-grandfather's name was Calogero Machi, later changed to Charles Magri. He was born on Aug. 6,1874 in Mesina, Italy. He was married to Francesca Artale who was also born in Italy. I know that in 1911 they lived in New York and that by 1942 they resided in Los Angeles, California. If any of this pertains to your family backgroud in any way please let me know, I could use all the help that I can get. Thanks a lot!

I come from Regalbuto (Enna), Graduated from High School in Catania - Istituto Salesiano Sacro Cuore ('69). Came to the States in 1969 without knowing a word in English (only French was thought then) attended part time City College of NY and obtained BS degree in Computer Science in 1978 while working full time as Computer Operator. Since then I have been working as a Computer Programmer for the mainframe (Cobol, VSAM, CICS) and I still think I have the best job in the world working for a consulting firm. My wife, Josephine is also Sicilian (from Bisacquino per essere precisi) and paesana of Frank Capra. I have two sons: Guy-Anthony (17) and Sal-John (13). They will both graduate from Archbishop Molloy HS, one of the top High Schools in the state, in 1999 and 2003. I think you have the best home page in the Net and you make all of us Sicilians very proud. Thanks.
